Attorney Alfred E. Schrader primarily focuses on representing all forms of local government throughout the state of Ohio, including townships, water districts, villages, fire districts, joint economic development districts (JEDD) cities and counties.


He is admitted to all Ohio courts, the U.S. Federal Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court, where he has filed two petitions for certiorari.


Schrader graduated from Springfield High School, Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science Magna Cum Laude. He received his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.


Schrader has represented local governments in over half of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties. Schrader acts as special counsel for zoning, joint economic development district formation, land use planning, annexation, and general local government law matters.


In 1997 he served as the interim law director for the City of Streetsboro, Ohio and has served as law director for Chippewa and East Union Townships – Wayne County, Ohio; Eaton Township – Lorain County, Ohio; Polk Township – Crawford County, Ohio; Twinsburg Township – Summit County, Ohio; Twinsburg Township Water and Sewer District, and the Twinsburg Township – Village of Reminderville Joint Economic Development District, as well as the Brimfield Township – City of Kent Joint Economic Development District, and Brimfield Township – City of Tallmadge Joint Economic Development District. He served as special counsel to Sugar Creek Township in Wayne County, Ohio and Westfield Township in Medina County, Ohio. He is township attorney for Boston Township; and counsel for Valley Fire District.


His bar activities include being a member of the board of trustees from 2015 to 2018 of the Akron Bar Association; chairing the Professionalism, Local Government, Grievance, Common Pleas and Appeals Court committees; and vice-chairing the Continuing Legal Education committee. He is a fellow and life member of both the Akron Bar Association Foundation and the Ohio State Bar Association Foundation. Schrader was the treasurer and is president of the Scanlon-Bell Inn of Court, where he serves as Bencher.


His civic activities include being frequent lecturer and presenter at seminars for Kent State University, the Akron Bar Association, National Business Institute, Ohio Township Association, presenting city, village and township law seminars.


Schrader served on Summit County Council District 8 from October 2003 to December 2004, and a Springfield Township trustee from 1974 to 2001. Schrader was president and secretary of the Ohio Township Association Risk Management Authority (OTARMA) board of directors, executive committee person for the Township Association of Summit County, and vice president and president of the Sturgeon Point Homeowners Association in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. Schrader also served as a founding member of the Springfield Township Veterans Memorial Committee.


Awards include the Akron Bar Association’s Liberty Bell award, Board of Trustees service award, Outstanding Committee Co-Chair award for the Commission on Judicial Candidates, Grievance Committee for service; the OTARMA board president gavel award; and served as president of the Springfield Township – City of Akron Joint Economic Development District Board.


Schrader resides in Springfield Township, Summit County, Ohio with his wife Debra and their Pomeranian/Schipperke dog, Cole.
